Soldiers Grove was the first community to adopt a solar zoning ordinance which stipulated the incorporation of passive solar strategies for all new buildings – commercial and residential.
Further, Soldiers Grove was the first
community —on this scale— to relocate
out of a flood plain to higher ground and build anew. Absent such a relocation, the town would likely be abandoned or inconsequential in the marketplace today. As a result, Soldiers Grove, according to U.S. News & World Report, has claimed itself, America’s first solar village.
